Emma Raducanu’s Australian Open campaign ended in the second round following a disappointing 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 loss to world number 55 Anastasia Potapova.
The British number one, seeded 28th, appeared “flat” and struggled with her movement throughout the match.
After failing to serve out the first set at 5-4, Raducanu lost momentum in the tie-break and never recovered. Potapova dominated the second set, breaking twice early on to secure a comfortable victory.
The defeat ends hopes of a marquee matchup against world number one Aryna Sabalenka. Raducanu’s lackluster performance follows an off-season disrupted by a foot injury, leaving her looking “undercooked” against the Austrian.
British qualifier Arthur Fery was also eliminated today, losing in straight sets to Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
