KCCA co-coach Brian Ssenyondo has issued a firm rallying call to his players following their bruising defeat to Police FC, urging an immediate response when the Kasasiro Boys make the tricky trip to face Maroons FC this Wednesday.
The loss to Police proved costly, denying KCCA the chance to maintain their grip on top spot. However, the Lugogo-based side have an opportunity to quickly set things right against one of the league’s most stubborn and physically imposing teams.
Speaking ahead of the Luzira encounter, Ssenyondo did not sugarcoat his assessment of the Police match, making it clear that standards must rise sharply if KCCA are to remain title contenders.
“The performance in our last outing was unacceptable for a club of this stature,” he told the pre-match press briefing. “We have informed the players that we cannot represent KCCA in that manner again.”
Maroons’ fortress at Luzira has long been a difficult hunting ground for visiting sides, a reality Ssenyondo fully acknowledges. Still, the tactician insists his team is ready to confront the challenge head-on, armed with improved discipline and sharper decision-making.
“Luzira is never an easy place to visit, but we have worked on our game management, and we are going there to fight for every ball and ensure we bring something positive back to Lugogo.”
Recent history between the two sides underlines how finely balanced the contest is likely to be. Of their last five league meetings, three have ended all square, with each side managing just a single victory, evidence of a rivalry that rarely produces clear winners.
KCCA have also received a timely boost on the squad front. Striker Emmanuel Anyama returns from suspension, while defender Peter Magambo is back in contention after recovering from injury. However, Joao Gabriel and Ettiene Katenga remain sidelined as they continue their rehabilitation.
Away from Luzira, Wednesday’s programme will see UPDF host Entebbe UPPC, while Police welcome Calvary FC, as the league calendar begins to gather pace.
