Kampala Hockey Club has been flagged off for the 2026 Africa Cup of Club Champions, with the continental tournament scheduled to run from January 24 to February 2 in Zimbabwe.
The flag off ceremony was conducted by the National Council of Sports, officially sending the club back to Africa’s top club competition after a two year absence. Kampala Hockey Club last featured at the championship in 2023, where they finished with a bronze medal.
The traveling contingent comprises 28 members, including 18 players and 10 officials, and is due to depart for Zimbabwe tomorrow.
Addressing the team at the ceremony, National Council of Sports Assistant General Secretary Milton Chebet urged the players and officials to remain focused, disciplined, and united throughout the tournament. He stressed the importance of representing Uganda with pride on and off the pitch.
Chebet also called on the contingent to speak positively about Uganda while abroad, noting that their conduct and words could help promote the country and attract tourists.
Kampala Hockey Club now heads to Zimbabwe aiming to build on their 2023 bronze medal performance and raise Uganda’s profile at the 2026 Africa Cup of Club Champions.
