Elena Rybakina ended Iga Swiatek’s bid for a historic career Grand Slam with a commanding 7-5 6-1 victory in the Australian Open quarter-finals.
Despite Swiatek’s status as the reigning Wimbledon champion, her revamped serve faltered on Melbourne’s fast courts.
Rybakina overcame a shaky start to dominate the baseline exchanges, winning the final set in a one-sided rout.
“It’s never been so flawless for me playing on these courts, as they are fast,” Swiatek admitted after the match.
Rybakina, the fifth seed, now faces American Jessica Pegula in Thursday’s semi-final after Pegula defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-2 7-6.
