UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE: Vipers Operating on a Different Level After Ruthless Police Rout

Vipers SC are no longer just leading the Uganda Premier League, they are owning it.

The Venoms’ ruthless 4-1 dismantling of Police FC under the Kitende floodlights on Tuesday night was more than a statement win; it was a vivid illustration of why they have become the division’s undisputed pace-setters.

Unbeaten after 13 matches, dominant at both ends of the pitch and brimming with attacking firepower, Vipers are steadily pulling clear of their closest pursuers.

Against fellow title contenders Police, the champions were relentless from the opening whistle. Their high-intensity press suffocated the visitors early on, forcing errors and pinning them deep in their own half.

The pressure eventually told in the 32nd minute. Karim Watambala, assuming the chief orchestrator role, threaded a perfectly weighted pass into the path of skipper Milton Karisa, who powered through his marker and fired home to break the resistance. From there, the contest tilted irreversibly in Vipers’ favour.

Watambala then underlined his growing influence on the league’s title race, smashing in a fierce strike that clipped the crossbar on its way over the line, for what could eventually turn out as the Goal of the Season.

That was before Odili Chukwuma rose unchallenged to head home a third just before the interval. Police were left shell-shocked, trailing 3-0 and clinging to damage limitation.

Although Saidi Kyeyune briefly revived hopes with a scrappy finish after the restart, any notion of a comeback was swiftly extinguished. Yunus Sentamu’s pinpoint delivery in the 73rd minute was met emphatically by Usama Arafat, whose towering header restored Vipers’ three-goal cushion and sealed a comprehensive night’s work.

Beyond the scoreline, the numbers paint an even more compelling picture of Vipers’ dominance. They have now beaten their closest challengers, Police FC (4-1) and KCCA FC (1-0), while remaining unbeaten through 13 games.

They boast the league’s most potent attack with 28 goals scored, the meanest defence with just seven conceded, and still hold a game in hand over their nearest rivals.

Perhaps most impressively, this surge has come despite the high-profile departure of Allan Okello to Young Africans SC. Rather than falter, Vipers have evolved. Watambala has stepped into the spotlight with six goals and two assists, while Arafat is leading the line superbly with five goals and four assists.

Around them, Karisa’s leadership, the energy of Gusto Mulongo, the solidity of Enock Ssebagala, the craft of Chukwuma and a well-drilled supporting cast continue to elevate the collective.

Having amassed 33 points and momentum firmly on their side, Vipers are not just setting the standard, they are redefining it with the rest of the pack seemingly chasing shadows.
