Junior Talents Take Spotlight at Close of Entebbe Junior Open

The Entebbe Junior Open has officially concluded today, Friday January 30, bringing to a close a tournament that began on December 5 before pausing for the festive season.

The extended format allowed juniors across different age groups and skill levels to compete, learn, and measure their progress in a structured environment at Entebbe.

The competition featured skills tests, short course formats, and full 18 hole rounds.

In the skills test category, Serena Williams emerged as the overall girls winner with a score of 5 out of 15, while Israel Monkoli topped the boys section with 8 out of 15.

The three hole contest produced a boys winner in Stanley Mungutimu with a score of 24, while no overall winner was registered in the girls category.

Over six holes, Kaiania Nambi claimed the girls title with a score of 34, as Nuwagira Collins won the boys section on 36.

The nine hole front nine contest saw Kyrah Martinah take top honours among the girls with a score of 64, while Robert Buyinza delivered a standout performance to win the boys category with a score of 47.

The main 18 hole event was contested in both net and gross categories. Camilla Murungi finished as the overall net winner in the girls category with a score of 108, while Paul Matsiko claimed the boys net title on 66, ahead of runner up Muwanguzi Joshua who returned 70.

In the gross category, Holly Agamile secured the girls trophy with a score of 115, while Kalenzi Victor dominated the boys section with an impressive 86, earning the trophy ahead of runner up Daniel Oburu on 92.

Lady Captain Maureen Okura described the tournament as the beginning of something bigger for junior golf at Entebbe, saying, “We will definitely see more of these tournaments, we could call this a project that’s been a start up”.

Entebbe Golf Club Captain Walusimbi praised parental support and urged wider participation, noting, “I’d like to thank the parents for bringing their children here to play this game. I’d also like to encourage parents to bring their children, it’s such a great game for the kids.”

The young winners also reflected on their journeys.

Thirteen year old Kalenzi Victor said, “I’d like to thank my parents for letting me participate and travel around the world to perfect my game”, while 15 year old Holly Agamire added, “I also would like to thanky parents for letting me play this game, and grateful that I have grown much better to participate in tournaments”.

Organisers say the successful conclusion of the Entebbe Junior Open reinforces the club’s commitment to developing junior golfers through consistent competition, mentorship, and long term support.
