Former Gazelles Star Moreen Amoding Calls for Gender Equality in Sports Programs

Former Gazelles star Moreen Amoding has called for gender equality in sports programs, echoing this year’s Women’s Day theme “Inspire Inclusion.”

In an exclusive interview with NBS Sport, Amoding, who now plays for KCCA Leopards in the NBL, emphasized the importance of providing women with equal opportunities in sports, similar to those afforded to men.

“Inclusion means granting women the same platforms and opportunities as men,” she stated.

Amoding also urged sports federations in Uganda to effectively implement programs for women.

“It’s crucial for sports federations in Uganda to prioritize women’s inclusion. While having programs is commendable, their implementation needs to be executed effectively,” she explained.

Recognizing the historical hindrances faced by women in sports due to cultural barriers, Amoding remarked, “Women primarily encounter cultural obstacles. There are numerous cultural stereotypes attached to women, perpetuating the notion that men excel in certain domains and now it’s imperative to challenge these stereotypes.”

She also called upon men in sports to leverage their platforms to advocate for women’s inclusion, emphasizing the collective responsibility of sports figures in fostering inclusion and empowering young girls to pursue their aspirations.

Regarding Women’s Day, Amoding concluded, “Let’s continue to uplift and empower women in sports and beyond.”
