Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign 20-year-old Rennes centre-half Jeremy Jacquet in a deal worth £55m plus £5m in add-ons.
The France Under-21 international will remain in France for the remainder of the season and officially join the Reds this summer, subject to a medical.
Personal terms are not expected to be an issue.
Chelsea had held talks with the defender during the winter window but were unwilling to match Liverpool’s bid.
Arne Slot’s side viewed Jacquet as a priority long-term investment after missing out on Marc Guehi.
The move also provides vital defensive cover as Ibrahima Konate enters the final months of his current contract.
Jacquet, who was named in the Under-19 Euros team of the tournament in 2024, has made 18 appearances for Rennes this season.
