Mbale City’s Hamsam Arena came alive with Premier League energy on Saturday, February 7, as Guinness Matchday on Tour delivered a first-of-its-kind live football experience in the region.
The event transformed the arena into a vibrant hub for football fans, who turned out in droves to watch top-flight English football on the big screens. From retro jerseys to the latest kits, supporters proudly showcased their teams, creating a festival-like atmosphere filled with chants, cheers, and friendly banter.
The marquee matches lived up to the hype. Manchester United beat Tottenham 2 0, with goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes keeping the Red Devils on a strong run under Michael Carrick. Arsenal extended their lead at the top with a 3 0 win over Sunderland, while Chelsea triumphed 3 1 at Wolves thanks to a stunning hat trick from Cole Palmer.
Fans were equally vocal off the pitch. “Wow just wow. The past few matchdays have really been good for us. What a time to be a Manchester United fan,” said Masaba, a Red Devil. Arsenal supporters remained focused on the title race, with one fan noting, “All we have to do is win our games, focus on ourselves and not bother about what the rest are doing.”
Beyond football, the event delivered a full entertainment experience. Dancehall and Afrobeat star Nandor Love energized the crowd with her hits, while local talents MC Izak, DJ Viva Pro, and DJ Caleb kept the energy high Mbale-style.
Denise Paula Nazzinda, Guinness Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries Limited, said the event met expectations. “Mbale was such a vibe. Fans turned out in their favorite colours, and the excitement was incredible. Even if the Matchday Truck isn’t in your area, the Guinness Matchday experience can still be enjoyed at your nearest bar.”
The Matchday Truck will continue its nationwide tour, heading to Mukono on March 1, promising another live Premier League weekend for fans.
