Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Jean-Philippe Mateta does not require surgery on the knee injury that collapsed his £30m move to AC Milan.
The 28-year-old striker saw his deadline-day transfer fall through after issues emerged during two medical examinations.
However, specialists have since played down the severity of the problem, boosting Mateta’s hopes of representing France at the World Cup this June.
“I’m 100% convinced that JP will give his best when he wears the Eagles shirt again,” Glasner said, urging fans to support the forward.
Mateta, who has eight Premier League goals this season, will face new competition for his starting spot from club-record signing Jorgen Strand Larsen when he returns to fitness. Crystal Palace, currently 13th, face Burnley on Wednesday.
