NEC Start Second Round Strong With Win Over KCCA

NEC beat KCCA 3-1 on February 13, 2026 to open the second round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, with debutant Richard Basangwa scoring twice at MTN Omondi Stadium.

Basangwa struck first in the 22nd minute after shrugging off his marker to finish calmly. KCCA responded soon after the break when Ivan Ahimbisibwe punished a defensive lapse to level the match.

NEC regained control midway through the second half. Joseph Seremba restored the lead in the 71st minute with a powerful strike into the top corner, before Basangwa added a third three minutes later to secure the points.

KCCA had started brightly and created early pressure, but NEC’s defence held firm and grew into the game. The hosts managed the closing stages without major threat to seal a strong start to the league’s second round.

Basangwa’s two goals earned him the Linqsoft Man of the Match award after an influential debut performance.

NEC next face a demanding away fixture against Vipers SC on February 17, 2026 at St. Mary’s Stadium as they aim to build on the victory.
