Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer, Neymar, has revealed he is considering retiring at the end of 2026.
The 34-year-old Santos forward, who returned to his boyhood club in January 2025 following a stint in Saudi Arabia, admitted that years of injuries have taken their toll.
“It may be that when December comes, I’ll want to retire. I’m living year to year now,” he told Brazilian channel Caze.
Despite the uncertainty, the former Barcelona and PSG star is targeting a final run with the national team.
Neymar, who has 79 international goals, hopes to secure a spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for this summer’s World Cup—his first appearance for Brazil since October 2023.
“This year is a very important year,” Neymar added, noting the “huge challenge” of returning to peak fitness following his most recent knee surgery in December.
