FIBA has placed Uganda 16th in its latest Smart Power Rankings ahead of the next window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers.
The Silverbacks remain bottom of the rankings as the campaign approaches the 40 percent mark, with three qualifying windows still to play.
Uganda carry a 2 to 14 win loss record in World Cup African qualifiers, one of the weakest returns among the participating nations.
Uganda open their Cairo campaign against reigning African champions Angola on Thursday, February 26 at 9 PM, a fixture that immediately tests their credentials in Group D. Egypt and Mali complete the group.
Much of the attention has turned to head coach Mandy Juruni who took charge after Lojo left the team due to a medical emergency.
Preparations have also been affected by the absence of Arthur Kaluma, Ishmail Wainright and Brandon Davis from the roster, raising further questions about squad depth and experience.
