Senne Lammens: The ‘Normal Guy’ Keeping Manchester United’s Top-Four Hopes Alive

Manchester United’s £18.1m summer signing, Senne Lammens, is proving that a “normal” approach can yield “brilliant” results.

The 23-year-old Belgian international has now started 21 consecutive Premier League matches, cementing his status as United’s undisputed number one.

Following a standout performance in a 1-0 win at Everton—where David Moyes labeled him “bloody brilliant”—Lammens visited a local primary school for World Book Day. “I try to show the world I’m just a normal guy,” Lammens said. “I hope that doesn’t change.”

Scout Tony Coton pushed for Lammens over Ruben Amorim’s preference for Emi Martinez. The decision has been vindicated as Lammens has kept Andre Onana (on loan at Trabzonspor) and Altay Bayindir out of the side.

While his clean-sheet rate is lower than his predecessor’s, Opta data shows Lammens ranks among the league’s best in Goals Prevented Rate, trailing only Jordan Pickford and Bart Verbruggen.

Modeling himself after Manuel Neuer, Lammens excels in physical aerial battles and “unfussy” shot-stopping, earning praise from legends like Edwin van der Sar.

Despite the hype, the Belgian remains grounded. “I still have to prove myself every week,” he insisted. “I am happy it went well, but it’s not the end.”
