Ritah Nimusiima showed that her class is permanent by putting on a spirited performance to win the inaugural Women’s Day Pool Championship held on Friday at the L’Amour Bar and Lounge in Kansanga.

The former seed one beat national team captain Amina Faith Nganda 4-1 in the final.

The one-day event was held in celebration of the women who dedicate their life and careers to pool as a sport.

Nimusiima’s tough road to her first individual title of the season included eliminating nemesis and current National Champion Rukia Nayiga 5-3 at the semi finals.

Lukia not only eliminated Nimusiima from last year’s National Open but also beat her in all individual encounters.

“I have been training hard, and I am happy it paid off. I deserved to win and hope it’s a good start to the season,” noted an excited Nimusiima, who dedicated the triumph to her mother.

Despite losing to Nimusiima, Nganda was happy with her performance.

“Congratulations to Ritah. It was her day. But I am happy with how I performed. I hope to perform even better this season,” said Nganda.

The new Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) Secretary for Women Affairs Debborah Ibenu was impressed with the day’s activities.

“This was a landmark event for us as we had more than 50 women taking part,” Ibenu said.

The championship attracted 56 participants where the winner took home Shs500,000 while the losing finalist had Shs250000 at stake.
