The JoeWalker Kampala to Hoima Road Safety Walk covered its toughest leg yet on Day Three, with participants completing a demanding 47.7 kilometre stretch to Kiboga.
After two earlier stages, the team set off from Kabongeza Village at dawn with a clear target of reaching Kiboga while sustaining their message that safe roads save lives. The distance proved punishing. Blisters, fatigue and uneven road conditions slowed the pace at times, but the walkers pressed on and eventually arrived at Kiboga School of Nursing, where they are camping for the night.
“We are tired, yes, but we are encouraged,” participants noted. “When communities stop to listen, ask questions, and share their experiences, it gives us strength to keep moving.”
The 227 kilometre campaign was flagged off at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel by Works and Transport Minister Edward Katumba Wamala, who urged road users to exercise patience and personal responsibility.
On Day Two, the walkers were joined by Rev. Benon Magarura, former chaplain of Makerere University and a road crash survivor. His testimony added weight to the campaign’s message.
“If we all exercise patience with each other on the road, we increase our chances of getting home safe,” Rev. Magarura reminded road users during the walk.
Nearly 50 kilometres on foot in a single day marked a defining chapter in the journey. With Kiboga now reached, the team continues its push toward Hoima, carrying its call for safer roads and responsible behaviour across communities along the route.
