Late Nakasi Goal Rescues Kawempe Point While Kampala Queens Keep Title Push Alive

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC dropped valuable points in the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League after being held to a 1-1 draw by She Maroons FC at Luzira Prison Ground on Saturday, while Kampala Queens FC strengthened their title ambitions with a 1-0 win over Olila High School WFC in Soroti.

Kawempe needed late heroics from Latifah Nakasi to salvage a point after falling behind early in the contest. Kauthara Naluyima had given She Maroons the lead in the 12th minute with a powerful long range strike that left goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje with no chance.

After going ahead, the hosts shifted into a compact 4-5-1 formation, allowing Kawempe to dominate possession while focusing on defensive discipline. The first half offered few clear chances, with both teams largely cautious in their approach.

Kawempe coach Ayub Khalifa responded at the break with tactical adjustments, introducing Shadia Nabirye and Zainah Nambozo to add pace and creativity. The changes pushed Kawempe into a more aggressive shape that helped them overload wide areas and increase attacking pressure.

The visitors controlled much of the second half and repeatedly threatened the She Maroons defence, which was forced to sit deep and defend in numbers. Their persistence eventually paid off in the 78th minute when Nakasi reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the box and fired home the equaliser.

Kawempe nearly completed the turnaround moments later, but Nakasi narrowly missed from a free kick just outside the penalty area. The draw leaves the Valley Warriors on 33 points, one ahead of She Corporate FC, who host Lady Doves FC on Sunday.

“We controlled the game in the second half and created clear chances, but we were unable to convert them. It’s frustrating to drop points in back to back away games,” coach Ayub Khalifa said after the match.

In Soroti, Kampala Queens FC secured a second straight victory with a narrow 1-0 win over Olila High School WFC at Olila Ground. Namaganda Zaituni scored the decisive goal in the 31st minute, while Peace Muduwa was named Woman of the Match.

The result keeps Kampala Queens firmly in the title race, while Olila High School WFC remain without a win this season.

Matchday 14 action concludes on Sunday with four fixtures. She Corporate FC will attempt to reclaim top spot when they host Lady Doves FC at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru. Uganda Martyrs High School WFC face Makerere University WFC at St Gerald’s Ground, St Noa Girls FC host Rines SS WFC at Mutessa II Stadium, and Asubo Ladies FC take on Amus College WFC at Kampala Quality Ground.
