Tottenham’s Champions League hopes are in tatters after a 5-2 first-leg thrashing by Atletico Madrid, marked by a “soul-destroying” 17-minute appearance from goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
The 22-year-old Czech, handed a surprise start over the dropped Guglielmo Vicario, endured a nightmare beginning.
A slip in the 6th minute gifted Marcos Llorente the opener before a 15th minute stray pass handed Julian Alvarez a third goal.
Interim boss Igor Tudor reacted ruthlessly, hauling Kinsky off in the 17th minute.
The youngster went straight down the tunnel in tears. Former Spurs keeper Paul Robinson slammed the move as “selfish” and “self-preservation” by the manager.
Vicario replaced him but conceded within five minutes as Atletico raced to a 4-0 lead.
Despite a late rally, Spurs face a massive deficit heading into the second leg on 18 March.
