Uganda’s Sebatindira Adds Berlin Title to Growing Youth Table Tennis Success

Uganda’s Joseph Sebatindira won the boys’ U13 singles title at the WTT Youth Contender Berlin after defeating Spain’s Romero Luca in the final, extending an impressive run for the young Ugandan on the international youth circuit.

Sebatindira secured the championship with a straight sets victory, beating Luca 3 to 0 in a tightly contested match that gradually swung in his favour. The Ugandan edged the opening set 11 to 9 before holding his nerve to claim the second 12 to 10. With momentum firmly on his side, he closed the match 11 to 7 to seal the title.

The win marked another significant milestone for Sebatindira and for the Uganda Table Tennis Association, with the Ugandan national anthem played at the venue in Berlin following his victory.

Sebatindira’s success in Germany continues a strong period of form on the international stage. Earlier this year he also claimed the U13 title at the WTT Youth Contender Vila Real, underlining his growing reputation among the top players in his age category.

The young player has spent the past months training in France as part of an international development programme under coach Alvin Katumba, a move that has contributed to his rapid progress on the global youth circuit.

Sebatindira’s campaign in Berlin is not yet over. Following his U13 triumph, he has also advanced to the knockout stages of the boys’ U15 singles event at the same tournament, where he will face older and more experienced opponents as he continues his run.

The WTT Youth Contender Series brings together emerging players across multiple age groups, including U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19, providing a competitive pathway for young athletes aiming to progress to senior international level.
