Uganda’s crews competing in the Safari Rally Kenya have completed the key pre-event formalities and are now set for the start of the rally in Naivasha.
Team Uganda confirmed on Wednesday that all four crews successfully went through recce, administrative checks and scrutineering ahead of the rally action scheduled from March 12 to 15.
The completion of the mandatory procedures clears the drivers and their machines to take part in one of the toughest rounds on the World Rally Championship calendar.
Team captain Duncan Mubiru and fellow Ugandan drivers Oscar Ntambi, Yasin Nasser and Timothy Gawaya are now in high spirits after successfully navigating the pre-race processes.
Recce allowed the crews to familiarise themselves with the stages, while scrutineering confirmed that the cars meet the technical and safety standards required for the championship.
The crews had earlier been officially flagged off in Kampala by Milton Chebet at the headquarters of the National Council of Sports, where government officials urged them to represent the country well at the demanding Kenyan event.
The Safari Rally is widely regarded as one of the most punishing events in global rallying because of its rough terrain, unpredictable weather and long stages.
For the Ugandan crews, finishing the rally and securing improved positions remains the primary target.
This year’s event has also attracted a strong international field in the top Rally1 category, including leading drivers from Toyota Gazoo Racing and Hyundai Motorsport as the championship heads to the gravel stages around Naivasha.
