Uganda’s track and field athletes will begin their 2026 season on Saturday when Uganda Athletics stages its first national trials at Mandela National Stadium.
The one day event on March 14 will bring together leading athletes from clubs and training camps across the country as they aim to post strong times ahead of upcoming international championships.
Several track races are scheduled on the program. These include the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m and 5000m. The field events will feature Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw and Triple Jump, which will be contested by men only during this first national trial.
The trials form part of the federation’s competition calendar used to assess athletes’ form and identify potential representatives for Uganda at international events later in the year.
Organisers expect strong participation as athletes look to begin the new season on a positive note while improving their personal best times. The meet also offers an early benchmark for coaches and selectors as preparations for regional and global competitions continue.
