Premier League leaders Arsenal have officially opened negotiations with Declan Rice over a new long-term contract.
Despite having two years left on his current deal (plus a club option), the Gunners are moving early to tie down the 27-year-old for his prime years.
The proposed extension includes a significant pay rise from his current £240,000-per-week salary, bringing him closer to top earners like Bukayo Saka, who recently signed a £300,000-per-week deal.
Since his £105m move from West Ham in 2023, Rice has become the heartbeat of Mikel Arteta’s side, racking up 102 Premier League appearances and 72 England caps.
The move is part of a wider strategy to retain the club’s core talent, following recent extensions for stars like William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.
While talks are in the early stages, Arsenal hope to secure their midfield general as they chase their first league title since 2004.
