Kitara produced a dominant display on Friday evening, beating Buhimba United Saints 4-0 in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League Bunyoro derby at Hoima City Stadium.
The result moved Kitara to 46 points, just one behind leaders Vipers SC, who were scheduled to face Calvary in Kitende on Saturday.
Kitara set the tone early and took the lead inside four minutes. George Senkaaba reacted quickest after Buhimba goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba spilled Kabon Living’s dangerous free kick, allowing the forward to tap into an empty net.
Senkaaba doubled the advantage shortly afterwards when he rose unmarked to head home a well delivered corner from Gaddafi Wahab. Buhimba’s best chance of the first half came through Eric Nyonyintono, but his free kick sailed over the bar.
The hosts continued to dominate and made it 3-0 just after the half hour mark. Kabon Living curled in an inswinging corner that evaded everyone in the box, including Buhimba right back Charles Kyomuhendo, before finding the net and sending the home crowd into celebration.
Kitara added a fourth six minutes before the break. Edson Agondeze slipped a precise through ball into the path of Living, who calmly finished to give the hosts a commanding lead heading into halftime.
Buhimba showed more intent after the restart but struggled to break down Kitara’s defence and goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige. Substitute Anwar Ntege arrived late to meet Swadik Moro’s cutback in the box, while Davis Ssali forced a strong save from Kibirige as the hosts protected their clean sheet.
Head coach Wasswa Bbosa later made a triple substitution around the hour mark, introducing Henry Musisi, Alex Emmanuel Wasswa and Chrispus Asiki in place of Edward Namasa, Wahab and Agondeze.
Living nearly completed a hat trick late on after being played through by Senkaaba, but Buhimba captain Maxwell Owachgiu produced a last ditch interception to allow substitute goalkeeper Ronald Mutebi to gather the ball. Mutebi then made two quick saves to deny John Bosco Byaruhanga, who had replaced Living.
The win strengthens Kitara’s title push and keeps them firmly in contention at the top of the Uganda Premier League table.
Their attention now shifts to the Stanbic Uganda Cup, where they will host Bunyaruguru United next Wednesday at Royals Park in Butema.
