The Buganda Schools Sports competitions registered a remarkable surge in participation this year, drawing more than 3,600 students from across the region.
The annual event, hosted at Kawanda Secondary School alongside seven other nearby grounds, climaxed on Sunday, March 15, with a vibrant showcase of youthful talent and school pride.
A total of 87 schools took part in the games, up from 67 in last year’s edition. Among them were 62 secondary schools and 25 primary schools, underscoring the growing enthusiasm for competitive sports at both levels of education.
The number of teams also rose sharply, with 187 squads competing across ten disciplines—an increase from 128 teams last year. While omweso and rugby sevens were dropped due to lack of registrations, the remaining sports provided plenty of action and excitement.
Standout performances came from Buddo Secondary School, Kawempe Muslim Secondary School, and Winsa Primary School, whose athletes excelled across multiple events, cementing their reputations as powerhouses in school sports.
With participation climbing steadily, the Buganda Schools Sports competitions are fast becoming a cornerstone of youth engagement in the region, nurturing the next generation of champions while strengthening community ties through sport.
