Manchester United will not reconsider their decision to release Casemiro at the end of the season, despite his strong recent form and fan pleas for him to stay.
The 34‑year‑old Brazilian, on £350,000 a week, announced in January he would leave when his contract expires. Co‑owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has pushed to cut costs, and United opted against triggering an extension clause.
Casemiro has since impressed, scoring seven goals this season, including Sunday’s opener against Aston Villa. Supporters chanted “One more year” as he celebrated, while teammates Bruno Fernandes and Leny Yoro expressed hope he might remain.
Interim boss Michael Carrick confirmed the club’s stance: “When something is decided it makes it easier. His impact has been terrific, but he’ll enjoy this moment with the fans.”
Casemiro, a five‑time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, will leave on a free transfer this summer.
