Oscar Ntambi Reflects on ‘Toughest Rally’ After ARC2 Win in Kenya

Oscar Ntambi said completing the Safari Rally and managing the car through difficult moments was the main objective as he reflected on his World Rally Championship debut in Kenya.

The Ugandan driver, competing alongside co-driver Uthman Mohammad, secured victory in the ARC2 category on his first appearance at the event, but emphasised that simply reaching the finish was the priority given the conditions.

“Safari Rally is one of the toughest rallies in the world, and it pushes both driver and machine to the limit. Although there were some mechanical difficulties along the way, the main goal was to control the vehicle and finish well. We are really grateful to our sponsor; KCB Bank for the opportunity and proud of ourselves for finishing our first WRC rally and getting this outcome,” Ntambi said.

Driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X under the Forest Rally Team, Ntambi navigated over 350 kilometres of demanding stages that included sections such as Camp Moran, Kedong, Sleeping Warrior and Hell’s Gate.

The rally is known for its punishing terrain, with deep ruts, loose gravel and unpredictable weather often forcing crews into survival mode rather than outright speed.

Ntambi revealed that the experience went beyond competition, describing it as a key learning step in his career as he looks to build on the result.

“This rally has been an amazing learning experience. For making this possible, we are appreciative of KCB Bank Uganda, our partners, and the entire team. Completing the Safari Rally was a dream, and this outcome inspires us to keep going.”

Despite mechanical setbacks, including overheating that required stops during the race, Ntambi and Mohammad maintained a steady and controlled approach, a strategy that proved decisive in securing the category win.
