The MakGuild League will return for its fourth season with a launch gala scheduled for April 12, 2026, marking the start of another campaign aimed at strengthening ties between past and present student leaders at Makerere University.
In a communication released on March 16, league chairperson Kyeyune Ivan Kyle confirmed preparations are underway for what organisers describe as a high-stakes season, both on and off the pitch.
The secretariat has outlined key compliance requirements ahead of kickoff. Participating Guild Houses must clear a subscription fee of UGX 2,000,000 by April 5, while all teams are required to submit full player rosters to facilitate scheduling for the expected 14 squads.
Season 4 follows a period of growth for the alumni-driven competition. The 88th Guild claimed the Season 2 title, while the 80th Guild won the third season after a final held in Kisumu, Kenya, raising expectations for the upcoming edition.
Matches will again be hosted at the Makerere University Rugby Grounds, but organisers continue to position the league as more than a football competition. It serves as a networking platform connecting former student leaders with the current generation, particularly at a time when the university is navigating a leadership transition following the dissolution of the 91st Guild Cabinet.
Off the field, the league will retain its multi-activity format, with the return of the “mental gymnasium” featuring chess, draft, and ludo. Teams are also required to maintain gender-inclusive rosters, reinforcing the league’s broader participation goals.
