Kitara host Bunyaruguru United this afternoon with a place in the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals at stake, as the Hoima-based side look to take advantage of home ground at Royals Park in Butema.
Kickoff is set for 3pm in a Round of 16 tie that comes with clear stakes, the winner advancing to the last eight and keeping alive hopes of a CAF Confederation Cup slot.
Kitara coach Wasswa Bbosa has warned against complacency despite the gap in divisions, insisting the contest will be treated with full seriousness.
“This match is crucial; any organized side can knock you out, even from a lower division. We are playing at home, ready to fight for the next stage,” he said.
Kitara come into the match with momentum after a 4-0 win over Uganda Premier League local rivals rivals Buhimba United, and with league action paused until early April, the focus has shifted fully to the Cup.
The hosts are boosted by the return of striker Jimmy Kalema from a two month injury layoff, although forwards Shaban Muhammad and Patrick Henry Kaddu remain sidelined.
Bunyaruguru United arrive under pressure domestically, winless in their last four FUFA Big League matches and fresh from a narrow derby defeat to Kigezi Homeboys.
However, their Cup run suggests resilience, having edged Amus College FC 1-0 and beaten Booma FC 3-0 in earlier rounds.
