Seroma Set to Host 2026 National Ball Games I

Seroma Christian High School has been cleared to host the 2026 National Ball Games I following an inspection by the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) on March 17.

The inspection team was led by Assistant Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports Odongo Sammy and USSSA third vice president Apolot Margaret Harriet, who represented president Mugisha Justus. Their visit confirmed Seroma as the main host, with Namilyango College and other venues in Mukono lined up as co-hosts.

An official letter approving the hosting rights, signed by Permanent Secretary Dr Kedrace Turyagenda, was handed to resident director Kyambadde Amelia after the exercise.

The games will be staged across multiple venues in Mukono district. Namilyango College will host boys’ accommodation, while Seroma will cater for girls, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies and racquet sports. Additional facilities identified include Uganda Christian University and playing grounds at Our Lady of Africa Mukono, Bishop’s SS Mukono and Nakisunga sub-county.

Disciplines scheduled for the competition include girls’ football, rugby 15s, netball U16, volleyball U16, handball U16, hockey, badminton, tennis, table tennis, basketball 5×5 and 3×3.

Seroma is currently upgrading its infrastructure, with construction ongoing on a basketball court and the main pitch. Project manager Kitayimbwa Solomon said the works are expected to be completed by April 15.

Speaking during a plenary session at the school, headteacher Kayanja Edith welcomed the decision and acknowledged the scale of the task ahead.

“It is an honor to host these games and we realize the task ahead of us is an uphill task. We want to assure you of our commitment to host these games. We have been closely supported by our ASSHU in Mukono and the regional leaders,” she said.

Kyambadde Amelia urged fans to turn up in large numbers, citing Mukono’s accessibility.

“I am extremely delighted for being given a go ahead to host the national ball games 1 in Mukono district and specifically at our premises Seroma Christian High School alongside our co-hosts. Everyone should make use of this chance to come and support the athletes because Mukono is near so there should be no excuses,” she said.

USSSA’s Apolot Margaret Harriet confirmed the decision, adding: “We have had an inspection of the venue. I would like to make it clear to the public that Seroma has been given the go ahead to host the ball games 1 this year 2026 alongside co-hosts Namilyango College so come one come all.”

Mukono zone chairperson Muhumuza Richard said the district is ready to deliver a successful event, noting the involvement of zones including Buvuma, Mukono, Kayunga and Buikwe in the preparations.
