The Uganda Schools Rugby Association has confirmed Mutesa II Stadium as the venue for the 2026 Central Schools Rugby League finals, setting the stage for the competition’s decisive matches following this weekend’s semi-final second legs.
The announcement was made on Friday by Dickson Okello, who said the facility was selected for its neutral setting and international-standard status, in line with the association’s aim to give school players better exposure.
The finals venue confirmation comes as the semi-finals head into their return legs on Sunday, with Makerere College School and Namilyango College holding commanding aggregate advantages after dominant first-leg wins. Makerere defeated St Mary’s College Kisubi 52-25 away, while Namilyango beat Kings College Budo 47-15 on the road.
Despite those scorelines, qualification for the final will be decided on aggregate, leaving room for potential comebacks in the return fixtures.
The competition, which kicked off on February 22, has produced high-scoring performances across the group stages. Schools such as Makerere College, Namilyango, Kings College Budo and St Mary’s Kisubi established themselves early with dominant wins, highlighting the attacking quality and depth in this year’s edition.
USRA has also confirmed that this year’s finals will include a third-place playoff in the Under-20 category, with bronze, silver and gold medals to be awarded. Officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports, National Council of Sports and the Uganda Rugby Union are expected to attend the finals.
Beyond the top-tier competition, matches in Division Two and regional leagues are ongoing across Central, Western and Eastern Uganda, reflecting growing participation in schools rugby.
The finalists will be confirmed after Sunday’s semi-final second legs, with attention then shifting to Wankulukuku for the title decider.
