Mikel Arteta believes Sunday’s League Cup final against Manchester City will be a defining test of Arsenal’s ability to turn promise into trophies.
The Gunners are chasing a historic quadruple, leading the Premier League by nine points and still alive in the Champions League and FA Cup. But after three straight second-place league finishes, Arteta insists his side must prove they can deliver silverware.
“It’s about whether you win the trophy or not,” he said. “We need to prove that point, and it has to be done on the pitch.”
Arteta, who left Pep Guardiola’s staff in 2019 to take charge at Arsenal, has only one major honour so far, the FA Cup in 2020.
Guardiola, meanwhile, confirmed James Trafford will start in goal for City, while Arteta kept his own selection under wraps.
