A tragic road accident at Kalule has claimed the lives of three supporters of Red Devo FC, casting a somber mood over the football community following a Uganda Cup fixture in Kampala.
The fans were returning from a Round of 16 match at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, where Red Devo FC had suffered a 4–0 defeat to Express FC.
What began as a routine journey home ended in devastation when the taxi they were traveling in was involved in a fatal crash.
Authorities have confirmed that three people, including the driver, died at the scene.
The deceased have been identified as Oyuku Arafat, Kawinya, and Odyek Juma.
Several other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The severity of their injuries has not yet been made public.
Earlier in the day, Express FC had delivered a dominant performance to secure their place in the quarterfinals.
Kenneth Kimera scored twice, while Henry Wamala and Herbert Asiimwe each added a goal to complete the 4–0 victory.
However, the result has since been overshadowed by the tragic events that followed.
News of the accident has sparked an outpouring of grief, with condolences pouring in for the victims’ families, friends, and the wider Red Devo FC community.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
