Lira City Queens tasted their first defeat in the FUFA Women’s Elite League, falling 1–0 at home to Jinja United Women Football Club on Saturday, 21st March 2026.
Having started their debut campaign with two straight wins, the hosts were tipped to extend their momentum at the lively Lira P7 School playground, where fans turned out in large numbers expecting another victory. Instead, Jinja United Women delivered a disciplined and composed performance from start to finish, frustrating the Queens throughout.
Both sides showed resilience in a tightly contested first half, with neither able to break the deadlock. By halftime, the score remained 0–0, leaving everything to play for in the second period.
The visitors increased the pressure after the restart, forcing Lira City Queens’ goalkeeper Ruth Amongi into three crucial saves to keep the game level. But Jinja’s persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when striker Ithungu Mary Jane struck to give them the lead.
The Queens responded with determination, pushing forward in search of an equalizer. Their chance came in the 76th minute when striker Irene Alum was fouled inside the box. Referee Jaspher Oluk pointed to the spot, sparking hope among the home crowd. However, captain Sumaya Akanya’s penalty was comfortably saved, turning anticipation into heartbreak.
Despite continued efforts, Lira City Queens could not find a way through, as Jinja United defended their slender advantage expertly until the final whistle.
The victory lifts Jinja United Women to the top of the table with 7 points from 3 games. Lira City Queens drop to second place with 6 points, level with Bul Women Football Club, who face UCU Lady Cardinals later this evening.
