Young Talents Shine as New Academies League Begins

The FUFA Academies League opened with a high-scoring round of fixtures on Sunday, headlined by Kasumba Angello’s hat-trick for El Cambio Soccer Academy.

The new competition, part of the FUFA Technical Master Plan 2023 to 2030, is designed to provide structured and competitive football for youth academies, with a focus on player development and talent identification. FUFA president Moses Magogo attended the opening matchday.

Kasumba delivered the standout performance as El Cambio beat Rays of Grace 4-1 in the Buganda region. He struck in the 7th, 52nd and 58th minutes, while Ofoyrwoth Junior added another goal. Rays of Grace scored through Kiganda Ivan in the 42nd minute.

In the Kampala region, Prosper Soccer Academy secured the biggest win of the day, thrashing Proline Soccer Academy 6-1. Proline had taken the lead through Ssekayiba Arshad in the 24th minute, but Prosper responded with goals from Uthuman Ali, Niwagaba Danny, Agenor Crispus, Ssenfuka Richard and Kamuhabwa Perez to complete a dominant turnaround.

Elsewhere in Kampala, KS Sparta 09 and Edgars Youth Programme shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Wafuba Alex scored twice for KS Sparta, while Edgars replied through Kidega Vincent and Kiyimba Ramadhan.

In Buganda, Twinbrook Soccer Academy also played out a 2-2 draw with Msingi Soccer Academy. Mulindwa Andrew and Kiyizi Jonathan were on target for Twinbrook, while Oguma Jerry and Muwanguzi Jonah scored for Msingi in a quick second-half response.

The opening round set the tone for what FUFA hopes will become a key pathway for nurturing young football talent across the country.
