French icon Zinedine Zidane will take charge of the national team after this summer’s FIFA World Cup, ESPN reported Monday.
The 53-year-old has reached a verbal agreement with the French Football Federation to replace Didier Deschamps, who has managed Les Bleus since 2012.
Zidane, a former Ballon d’Or winner and three-time FIFA World Player of the Year, guided Real Madrid to three straight Champions League titles as coach.
As a player, he led France to the 1998 World Cup crown and a runner-up finish in 2006.
His appointment marks the start of a new era for French football.
