Jimmy Akena has described KCB Bank Uganda’s title sponsorship of the National Rally Championship as a major step forward for the sport, pointing to its direct impact on drivers and the wider motorsport ecosystem.
The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda president said the increased investment will strengthen the championship while addressing one of the sport’s biggest challenges, supporting drivers.
“The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda is proud to deepen our partnership with KCB Bank Uganda as the title sponsor of the National Rally Championship. This level of investment not only strengthens the championship but also directly supports drivers, which is critical for the growth of the sport. Together, we are building a stronger, more competitive motorsport ecosystem that showcases Ugandan talent on the continental and global stage,” Akena said.
KCB Bank Uganda has committed shs960 million to the sport, with a significant portion going directly to rally drivers, a move Akena believes will improve competitiveness and create more opportunities for local talent.
The championship, now rebranded as the KCB–National Rally Championship, is set to begin on March 27 in Mbale, marking a new phase for rallying in Uganda under an expanded partnership between the federation and the bank.
Akena’s remarks underline the federation’s focus on long-term growth, with the new sponsorship expected to raise standards and increase Uganda’s presence in regional and international motorsport.
