Marathon icon Eliud Kipchoge will headline the deepest elite field in the history of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon on 24 May, marking his first marathon on African soil.

The men’s race features 14 sub-2:08 runners, including Stephen Kiprop (2:03:37), Maru Teferi (2:04:44), and South Africa’s Elroy Gelant (2:05:36). The women’s line-up is equally fierce, led by Lonah Salpeter (2:17:45), Ruti Aga (2:18:09), and veteran Edna Kiplagat (2:19:50).

More than 27,000 runners from 102 countries will compete, with the event chasing Abbott World Marathon Majors status.

The prize purse has jumped to R6.6 million, with winners earning $35,000 and record-breaking bonuses on offer.

“This is a powerful connection to the continent that has shaped so many great athletes,” Kipchoge said.

With world-class elites, a stacked wheelchair division, and record incentives, Cape Town is set for a marathon like no other.
