Uganda’s gaming ecosystem continues to take shape, and over the weekend, Game Jam 2026 gave a clear glimpse into what that future could look like.
Following earlier coverage on NBS Sport that explored the rise of developers and digital creators in Uganda, the latest Game Jam brought that conversation to life, with over 40 participants coming together for a 24-hour hackathon to build original games from scratch.
For those who have been following the growth of gaming on NBS Game Plus, this moment reflects years of groundwork within the esports and gaming space, both locally and globally.
From Community to Creation
The Game Jam was not just about competition. It was about execution.
Participants were challenged to build games based on themes such as conservation, food culture, transportation and heritage, pushing developers to translate everyday Ugandan experiences into interactive formats.
By the end of the 24-hour sprint, several standout projects emerged:
Endangered – Code Chaos (1st Place)
A puzzle-based game focused on protecting endangered species, blending gameplay with environmental awareness.

Nyanya Mbisi – Loop Studio (2nd Place)
A fast-paced experience inspired by Uganda’s Rolex culture, capturing the pressure of street food preparation, customer demand and delivery.

Last Hope – Night Owls (3rd Place)
A survival-driven concept rooted in conservation, highlighting environmental resilience.

Other notable entries included Dynasty by Code Rancheo and Border to Boda by Mazuka Interactive, which explored heritage and mobility.
More Than a Hackathon
For many in the gaming space, this was not a starting point. It was a continuation.
Over the years, platforms like NBS Game Plus have consistently spotlighted gaming, esports and digital creativity, helping to grow awareness and build a community around the industry.
This Game Jam now represents a shift from playing and watching games to building them.
Event coordinator and NBS Game Plus presenter Danze Edwin, who has been active in Uganda’s gaming community since 2014 and engaged with global ecosystems since 2020, sees this as a defining moment:
“This is the next phase for gaming in Uganda. We are moving from just engaging with games to actually creating them. The goal is to build a system where developers, creators and players all have a role to play.”
Mentorship and the Road Ahead
While only three teams walked away with cash prizes, the bigger win lies in what comes next.
All participating teams will continue to receive mentorship and support, ensuring that their ideas do not end at prototype stage.
Ronald Kayima emphasized the importance of this next phase:
“The Game Jam is a unifying platform for Uganda’s gaming community. It gives participants the chance to collaborate, build real products and develop both technical and soft skills. We are committed to mentoring these teams and creating clear pathways into professional game development.”
This continued support is key to transforming one-off ideas into sustainable projects and, eventually, commercial products.

Gaming Beyond Entertainment
One of the strongest takeaways from the Game Jam is how gaming is evolving beyond entertainment.
The themes explored during the hackathon reflect real-world sectors:
– Conservation and environmental awareness
– Food systems and local economies
– Transportation and mobility
– Culture and heritage
This shows how gaming can serve as a tool for storytelling, education and communication, while still creating opportunities for careers in development, design and digital production.
From Uganda to the Region
As the ecosystem grows, there is increasing ambition to position Uganda within the wider regional gaming and esports landscape.
With continued collaboration between developers, media platforms and industry partners, there is potential to scale these efforts beyond local boundaries.
The Game Jam is one step in that direction.
What’s Next on Game Plus
For audiences looking to understand what this means for the future of gaming in Uganda, NBS Game Plus will feature a full breakdown of the Game Jam this Saturday morning.
The episode will showcase the teams, their games, behind-the-scenes moments from the hackathon and insights into how platforms like this are shaping the next generation of developers.
