Max Verstappen says he is considering retirement after finishing eighth at the Japanese Grand Prix, admitting he is “beyond frustrated” with Formula One’s new regulations.

The four-time world champion criticized the sport’s shift to hybrid engines, arguing energy management has replaced pure racing. “You wait for 22 or 24 races and then ask yourself: is it worth it?” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Verstappen, contracted to Red Bull until 2028, has endured a poor start to the season and hinted he may walk away early. With Bahrain and Saudi Arabia canceled, F1 enters a five-week break before Miami, where stakeholders will review the rules.

Despite his struggles, Verstappen said he remains happy in his private life and is exploring other motorsport pursuits, including sports car racing at Nürburgring.
