Ekiyanja Football Club emerged victorious as the Season Champions of the sixth edition of the STACON League, capping off a thrilling grand finale held at Standard College Ntungamo.
In a tightly contested final, Ekiyanja FC faced off with Embengo FC, the defending champions of the fifth edition, in a match that lived up to its billing. The two sides could not be separated in normal time, settling for a goalless 0-0 draw before Ekiyanja held their nerve in a dramatic penalty shootout, edging Embengo 8-7 to claim the championship title.
Twelve teams competed in the grand finale, but it was Ekiyanja FC that stood out, showcasing resilience and composure throughout the competition to lift the coveted trophy.
Enguliko FC, the youngest team in the league, were crowned champions of the Stacon Cup, adding further excitement to a well-organized tournament that celebrated both competition and camaraderie among alumni.
The event was graced by Chief Guest Hon. Steven Tashobya, Former Kajara Member of Parliament, alongside the Director of Standard College Ntungamo. Both pledged continued support towards the growth of the STACON League and wider alumni sports initiatives, emphasizing the importance of sports in strengthening community ties.
The sixth edition of the STACON League has been widely praised as one of the most organized alumni competitions, setting a high benchmark for future editions. Organizers have already confirmed that the seventh edition of the league will return in August, promising a bigger and more inclusive sporting calendar.
In addition to football, the upcoming season will feature other disciplines such as netball, volleyball, and basketball, further expanding the reach and impact of the league.
