NBS Sport’s coverage of the 2026 Basketball Africa League continued last night as Egypt’s Al Ahly Ly claimed their first victory of the season, defeating Dar City 118-97 in Pretoria.
After losing their opening two games, Al Ahly Ly started aggressively, racing to a 17-4 lead in the first quarter and maintaining control throughout. They led 51-34 at halftime and never looked back, boosting their hopes of reaching the Kalahari Conference playoffs with two games remaining.
Standout performances included Donovan Williams and Majok Deng (22 points each), while 2024 BAL MVP Jo Lual Acuil posted a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Off the bench, Jean Jacques Boissy added 18 points, and Damion Baugh set a BAL record with 18 assists alongside 16 points.
Dar City’s resistance came through Michael Foster, who scored a game-high 37 points, supported by David Michineau (20) and Junior Madut (18).
The contest set new BAL scoring benchmarks: Al Ahly Ly became the first team this season to surpass 104 points, and the combined 215 points marked the highest-scoring game in BAL history.
Next up, RSSB Tigers face Nairobi City Thunder this Easter Sunday at 4pm. Tigers remain unbeaten in two games, while Thunder sit fifth with one win and one loss.
