Uganda’s St Mary’s Secondary School Kitende has officially been flagged off to represent the nation at the upcoming CAF Africa Schools Football Championship in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The send-off ceremony, held at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Tuesday, March 31st, was presided over by the Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports, Rev. Canon Dr. Duncan Mugumya, who urged the young athletes to uphold discipline, teamwork, and national pride as they step onto the continental stage.
The delegation comprises 20 athletes and six coaches, all of whom received blessings and encouragement from school officials and supporters ahead of their journey.
This year’s tournament, running from April 2nd to April 10th, marks the fourth edition of the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship. St Mary’s Kitende, renowned for producing some of Uganda’s finest football talents, enters the competition with high expectations and a determination to make a strong impression.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rev. Mugumya emphasized the importance of character as much as performance:
“You carry the flag of Uganda. Play with discipline, unity, and pride, and let your talent speak for the nation.”
With a rich history of nurturing stars who have gone on to shine in Ugandan and international football, Kitende’s participation is seen as a chance not only to showcase skill but also to inspire the next generation of players.
