Parliament Sets April 15 for CAF Report Review on Uganda’s AFCON 2027 Readiness

The Speaker of Uganda’s 11th Parliament has directed that a crucial Confederation of African Football (CAF) report on the country’s readiness to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) be tabled for review on April 15.

The directive followed a heated exchange in Tuesday’s plenary sitting between Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

Ssenyonyi pressed government on Uganda’s preparedness, questioning whether the heavy investments in new stadiums and infrastructure projects were realistic given the timelines and financial demands.

In response, Nabbanja assured legislators that the government is treating the matter with utmost seriousness, emphasizing that preparations are underway to meet CAF’s requirements.

The Speaker’s ruling now sets the stage for a comprehensive debate when the report is presented. Lawmakers are expected to scrutinize CAF’s findings and assess whether Uganda is on track to meet the standards necessary to successfully co-host AFCON 2027 alongside its regional partners.
