The 2026 Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games concluded with a showcase of school sports excellence, as Kawempe Muslim Secondary School and Kawanda Secondary School delivered standout performances, while Gombe Secondary School retained the overall crown.
Kawempe Muslim reaffirmed their dominance in girls’ football, clinching a record-extending seventh title after a composed 2-0 victory over hosts Nkoma Secondary School in the final. Their sustained success cements their reputation as the undisputed powerhouse of the competition.
In netball, Kawanda Secondary School reclaimed glory, edging Kadugala Secondary School in a thrilling final to lift the trophy. Defending champions Greenlight Islamic Secondary School settled for third place after falling short in their title defence.
Despite the brilliance of Kawempe and Kawanda, Gombe Secondary School once again emerged as overall champions, amassing five gold medals to retain their crown. Kibuli Secondary School followed closely with four golds, underlining their consistency across multiple disciplines.
Elsewhere, Kyaddondo Secondary School edged Masaka Secondary School 1-0 in a tense boys’ football final, while Buziga Islamic secured third place. Volleyball action saw Kinaawa High School Mugongo extend their winning streak in the girls’ category, with Mbogo Mixed doing the same in the boys’ division.
The annual games attracted 47 schools, 122 teams, and 1,591 student participants, competing across football, netball, volleyball, handball, table tennis, badminton, scrabble, and chess — a testament to the rising standards of school sports nationwide.
