Rubirizi District has received a boost to its grassroots rugby ambitions after brothers Joseph Aredo and Gabriel Aredo donated rugby balls to schools and local teams, according to a report by Hippos Fans Club.
The district’s rugby structures confirmed the development through their WhatsApp channel, with the equipment expected to support preparations ahead of upcoming competitions.
District Sports Officer Hakim Suna urged beneficiaries to make immediate use of the balls, calling on schools and teams to step up training efforts. He said the donation should act as a springboard for improved performance and participation across the district.
Speaking at the handover, Gabriel Aredo emphasised rugby’s role beyond the field, noting its value in shaping discipline, unity and opportunity among young people. He also encouraged the wider community to embrace the sport as it continues to grow locally.
The donation comes as Rubirizi District prepares for the establishment of the Kayangwe Age Grade Rugby Centre, a project expected to further structure youth development pathways.
