Former NRA Bush War Commander Colonel Samson Mande has officially launched the Col Mande Annual Golf Tournament last weekend at Kabale Sports Club Golf Course in Makanga, Kabale Municipality.
The event, held during his homecoming tournament, marked his return to Uganda after 25 years in exile in Sweden.
Organizers hailed the competition as a symbol of unity and reconciliation, underscoring Mande’s new chapter as both a sports patron and founding member of the NRM/A.
Charlot Kemigisha Charlot, a member of Kabale Sports Club, said the tournament was organized to honor Mande’s return, thanking President Yoweri Museveni for facilitating it.
Speaking after the launch, Col. Mande revealed that colleagues in the golf fraternity had proposed the idea, which he embraced to promote the sport regionally.
He pledged to sponsor new memberships, provide equipment, and support infrastructure upgrades at the club.
Mande further called on government to invest more in sports development, highlighting untapped potential in golf and other disciplines. He emphasized that passion and talent, not wealth, should drive participation.
