If Game 1 of the Easter Women’s T20 Cup was a lesson in survival, Game 2 at Lakeside Cricket Oval, Entebbe, was a cold exhibition of seniority. The Victoria Pearls made quick work of their developmental side, Uganda A, securing a comprehensive 51‑run victory.
While the scoreboard reflects dominance, the true story of the day was written by a single, devastating bowling spell that will be remembered long after the tournament concludes.
The Pearls won the toss and elected to bat first, aiming to set a target that would test the youngsters’ resolve. Captain Janet Mbabazi anchored the innings with a high‑caliber display of power hitting and placement.
Her knock of 42 runs off 38 balls, laced with five boundaries, laid the foundation for an innings that struggled to find rhythm against the spirited bowling of Lorna Anyait (3/16).
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals and being bowled out for 100 in 19.2 overs, the Pearls leaned on the experience of right‑hand batter Esther Iloku, who followed her Game 1 heroics with an unbeaten 20 off 26. It was a total the senior side could defend—if the bowlers were clinical enough.
The second innings was nothing short of tactical demolition. Chasing 101, Uganda A found themselves ensnared in a spinning web woven by Sarah Akiteng.

In a career‑defining performance, Akiteng produced a rare and historic hat‑trick, finishing with staggering figures of 5 for 6 in just 3 overs. Her ability to extract turn and bounce from the Entebbe surface left Uganda A’s middle order looking out of its depth. From the experienced Jimia Abdallah to the promising Asumin Akurut, no one had an answer to Akiteng’s accuracy.
The developmental side folded for just 49 runs in 13.3 overs. Akiteng’s brilliance was expertly complemented by Malisa Ariokot (2/4) and Irene Mutonyi, once again proving why she remains a mainstay in the national setup.
The Victoria Pearls have set a formidable standard, but the tournament allows no room for complacency. On Friday, April 10, the action intensifies at Entebbe Cricket Oval with another double header.
The morning session brings a high‑stakes rematch between the Pearls and Uganda A, with the juniors desperate to apply lessons from Game 2’s spinning masterclass. In the afternoon, Uganda A faces the USA Women’s Cricket Team, who will be eager to bounce back from their one‑run defeat in the opener.
