Australia’s Matildas beat Kenya 2–0 at Nyayo National Stadium to claim the inaugural FIFA International Women’s Series Nairobi title.
Sam Kerr struck in the first half before Clare Wheeler sealed victory with a neat finish. Coach Joe Montemurro praised Kenya’s spirited display, noting the Starlets created several chances and pushed his side hard. Kerr called the tournament “a huge step for women’s football”.
Kenya’s young squad impressed despite defeat, with Fasila Adhiambo twice hitting the post. Captain Mwanahalima Adam said the team showed they could compete with the world’s best.
India took bronze after edging Malawi 3–2 in a thrilling contest, with Aveka Singh scoring twice. Malawi coach Lovemore Fazili welcomed the exposure ahead of their WAFCON debut.
