Pacific FC’s Alejandro Díaz has scored the first-ever goal under football’s experimental “daylight” offside law, netting in a 2–2 draw with Halifax Wanderers.
The Canadian Premier League is trialling the rule this season with Fifa, requiring a clear gap between attacker and defender to be offside.
Advocated by Arsène Wenger, the change aims to reduce marginal calls and boost attacking play.
Results of the trial will be presented to Ifab later this year, with a global rollout possible by the 2027–28 season.
