The Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) has announced the national squad that will compete at the ITTF Africa East Regional Championships in Port Sudan, Sudan, from 20 to 23 May 2026. The team was selected following national trials held on 11, 12, 18 and 19 April at Kololo Senior Secondary School.
The trials saw intense competition over four days, with the top three performers in both men’s and women’s categories securing their places. In the men’s division, Joseph Sebatindira led the standings with 28 points, followed by Joshua Magaya in second and Enock Balyewunya in third. On the women’s side, Nakawala Jemimah topped the leaderboard with consistent wins, while Nangonzi Parvin and Anyango Patience completed the podium.
UTTA President Cyrus Muwanga congratulated the qualifiers and urged them to carry Uganda’s flag with “pride, discipline, commitment and sportsmanship.” The association also confirmed that, subject to qualification, these athletes will represent Uganda at the African Senior Championships in Morocco later this year, following ITTF Africa regulations that require regional competitors to feature in continental squads.
The trials highlighted spirited performances, with emerging talents challenging established players in tightly contested matches. UTTA thanked all participants for their dedication and reaffirmed its commitment to developing table tennis nationwide.
The East Africa Regional Championships will provide Uganda’s team with competitive exposure and a pathway to continental qualification, with the African Senior Championships scheduled for October in Morocco. The UTTA Technical Commission will coordinate with the athletes and their clubs as preparations begin for international duty.
